Landmarks

2020	Beginning of the transformation programme (BRIC 2022) designed to improve the quality of the BRIC services and increase the satisfaction of its customers and partners Nomination of the new general direction of the BRIC: Sir Nicolas Locoge starts as the new Director-general of the BRIC (1 March) and Sir Marc Van den Bossche starts as the Deputy Director-general (1 February).
2019	Brussels Smart City event – Fiber to the School, on 27 November 2019. Programme to equip type-6 Special Educational Needs institutions (workstations with Braille control panels). Now online: school enrolment and appointment scheduling with administrative bodies with IRISbox (October). IRISbox: at the end of July, the amount of requests has surpassed the total amount of requests made in the whole of 2018. DataStore.brussels, a unique entry point for data and services in the Brussels-Capital Region, is launched (June). The BRIC White Paper 2019-2024 is published (May). The Smart City ambitions paper is published (April). The BRIC participates in the Digital Spring (French: Printemps numérique, Dutch: Digitale Lente) (March).
2018	Brussels Smart City - we’re all going digital! The digital inclusion forum, on 1^st December 2018. Launch of bedigital.brussels portal, on 25 May 2018. Brussels Smart City: municipalities and citizens in the digital age, on 17 May 2018. Monthly Carte blanche published on the BRIC website.
2017	Brussels Smart City for Economy, on 13 November 2017. 30th anniversary of the law establishing the BRIC, (August 21^st). Brussels Smart City for Culture: art and culture in the digital era, on 13 June 2017. Fiber to the School: half of Brussels schools connected to very high-speed Internet (April 2017). Creation of Digital.Brussels, a new unified digital strategy for the Brussels Region. Brussels Smart City for Education, on 8 March 2017.
2016	Launch of opendatastore.brussels portal. Smart City Public Event on 3 May 2016. Participation in Publica Public Policymakers Fair - FixMyStreet presented with the silver Publica Award and the people’s choice award. Urbizone becomes wifi.brussels (September 2016). Reorganisation of the BRIC. The Smartcity.brussels portal celebrates its first anniversary - 20 regular contributors. Further development of the video protection platform: the STIB (Brussels public transport, Brussels-Mobility and half of the police zones take part).
2015	Holding of the Brussels Smart City Summit. Deployment of Urbizone in public places. www.smartcity.brussels. The Region adopts the extension .brussels for emails. Start-up of video surveillance project. Recruitment and appointment of a smart city manager for the Brussels-Capital Region. First series of Smart City Breakfasts.
2014	Fiber to the school. The BRIC White Paper introduces the Smart City concept in the Brussels-Capital Region. The 19 Brussels communes join Nova. The Brussels-Capital Region adopts the extension .brussels for websites.
2013	The BRIC and Bruxelles Mobilité develop a shared Open Data licence for the provision of their data, strengthening the free and accessible nature of UrbIS. Start of a dialogue at Region level on the operating uses of CCTV and its harmonious integration in the urban environment. Launch of the Fix My Street application. Participation in the Libre Software Meeting 2013 in Brussels.
2012	The BRIC becomes a founder member of IRISnet scrl. The BRIC's Twitter account goes live. The official Brussels-Capital Region portal receives the Anysurfer mark.
2011	The new official Brussels-Capital Region portal goes live. The BRIC website receives the Anysurfer mark favouring accessibility for people with a functional disability.
2010	Collaboration with Bruxelles Environnement for the integration of ecological and ethical criteria at the BRIC. Start of a dialogue at the BRIC on a Regional Data Centre.
2009	Enlarged availability of Brussels UrbIS products with free UrbIS user licence.
2008	Distribution of more than 50,000 eID card readers to the communal administrations to promote the eID card.
2007	Deployment of the Balanced Scorecard, a strategic management tool used by the BRIC.
2006	Under the Multimedia Plan, provision to the Region's special needs educational institutions of equipment specially adapted to the needs of people with a visual or auditory impairment.
2006-2012	Establishment of IRISteam asbl, an IT skills hub for the BRIC. Approval of BRIC's mission statement by the Brussels Government. Customer service strategy (citizens, business, civil servants): deployment of the free Urbizone wireless network and Digital Public Spaces (EPN); creation of the E-catalogue; development of new regional portals (mobility, public spaces and Brussels social sector, urban development); creation of the BOS and BOS online xchange platforms.
2005	The BRIC's IRISline helpdesk opens.
2004	Three years before Google Maps, Geoloc, a cartographic tool preceding geolocation on the territory of the Brussels-Capital Region, goes live. New version of the official portal of the Brussels-Capital Region.
2002-2006	Establishment of a platform strategy, including Nova to manage planning permits, SInCrHo to manage hospital debts and the IRISbox one-stop shop.
2000	The IRISnet network goes live.
1999	Extension of the BRIC's competence to encompass telecommunications.
1998	Placement of interactive IRISnet terminals in the Brussels metro, a European first. Start of the Multimedia Plan to computerise Brussels schools.
1997	The BRIC website goes live. The official website of the Brussels-Capital Region, designed and administered by the BRIC, goes live. The Brussels Government gives the BRIC responsibility for designing, producing and managing Brussels UrbIS, the Region's computerised cartographic database.
1995	First White Paper "to raise awareness among bodies of the Brussels-Capital Region of the importance of the ongoing revolution" (1995 Annual Report).
1989-1994	Computerisation of the local authorities.
1989	Creation of the Brussels-Capital Region. The BRIC begins operations and has its powers extended to include regional authorities and administrations.
1987	Bill creating the BRIC passed into law (amended by the order of 20 May 1999).
