Translating administrative documents

Trados is a tool for translators that memorises sentence segments as well as words. Each new item translated is added to a translation memory that can be shared by all translators using the platform. The software therefore makes it possible for terms and segments to be retrieved from previous translations.  It indicates which elements have not already been translated and then suggests various possible translations. The program also ensures that the page layout and formatting are preserved. 

The Swiss Army knife for professional translators

Trados is the Swiss Army knife for professional translators. It increases their productivity by: 

• allowing them to translate the texts without worrying about the layout, amounts or dates 
• only stopping for the translator's input when it arrives at a segment not already translated. In such cases, Trados will suggest the various translations that correspond to the segment to be translated, from the most relevant to the least relevant. 

Translating documents while maintaining full confidentiality 

On the one hand, Trados stores sentence segments (in a translation memory) and words (in a dictionary). The translation memory is stored centrally in the Regional Data Centre (RDC) and can be shared between the various translators, who can take advantage of the work already done. Each new sentence segment that the translator translates is added to the translation memory. 

A personal dictionary is also stored locally on the translator's computer.

Thanks to this collaborative tool, administrative bodies can work in complete trust because the terms and segments in the translation memory do not make it possible to reconstruct a message. The original texts remain fully confidential. 

In conclusion, the Trados service allows administrative bodies to work more efficiently by centralising and sharing previously translated words and sentence segments while preserving confidentiality.
