Sharing regional open data

Datastore is the IT portal that centralises the open data produced in the Brussels-Capital Region. Based on open data, the platform is accessible to all and fed by users (municipalities, PIOs, administrations, etc.) who give free access to their data and web services.   

Using data in a simplified way 

Datastore is part of the ecosystem of services that enables free access to and sharing of the Region's open data and services, along with FIDUS and API Manager, which exchange various types of data with multiple levels of accessibility.

Any regional partner can use Datastore to host their data and enjoy its many advantages:  

• automation of data addition 
• support in the implementation of data 
• pooling of a high-quality, secure tool, which allows a good economy of scale 
• increased visibility and accessibility of existing datasets and services 
• etc.

In addition to the data hosted directly on the platform, Datastore is also based on harvesting processes that make it possible to copy metadata records from other portals to its own catalogue. Users are therefore always directed to the latest version of the data or webservice. 

Use of data 

With no obligation to register, it is possible to browse the portal, search and consult data and webservices, and create a profile to make suggestions or subscribe to the newsletters of one or more organisations or one or more datasets.

Improved data governance

Encoding the data allows the access conditions of each source to be documented. It is therefore possible to have an overview of what can be shared internally, between administrations or externally. This documentation also makes it possible to identify the person responsible for each data source and thus respect data governance principles.

This portal is fed on a daily basis and is a vector for innovation and economic growth, as its data can be used and reused by everyone (individuals, companies, administrations, start-ups, schools, universities, etc.). It promotes citizen participation and the principle of the transparency of public authorities.
