Government go-ahead for Regional Data Center

A major step has been taken in a project long promoted by the BRIC: the Brussels Government has approved the creation of a new Regional Data Centre. This project, representing an investment of € 16 million over the next three years, will involve the Brussels-Capital Region, the BRIC, the STIB/MIVB (Brussels public transport company) and Sibelga. The new Regional Data Centre, with a total capacity of 1500 m², is to be established in the commune of Forest.

The centre will ensure optimal security for stored data, significantly reduce the ecological footprint and enable infrastructure streamlining with the centralisation of a hundred existing computer rooms at a single location. It will also serve as a recovery site as part of a DRP. This decision means that the BRIC will be in a position to provide all its local and regional partners with optimal conditions for secure and reliable hosting and cloud services.
